Week 1- Sequential Images - Artist Research- Elliott Erwitt

 Artist: Elliott Erwitt

Born in Paris in 1928 to Russian parents, Erwitt spent his childhood in Milan, then emigrated to the US, via France, with his family in 1939. As a teenager living in Hollywood, he developed an interest in photography and worked in a commercial darkroom before experimenting with photography at Los Angeles City College. In 1948, he moved to New York and exchanged janitorial work for film classes at the New School for Social Research.

Along the way, he met Robert Capa, Edward Steichen and Roy Stryker, who became his prominent mentors.

In 1953 he was invited to join the prestigious Magnum Photos agency by Robert Capa, one of its founders, becoming, fifteen years later, its president.

In the 1960s, he began making documentaries, television shows, and books. To date, Erwitt has authored eighteen monographs and continues to work on new titles.

His camera has photographed many of the protagonists of contemporary history, such as John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, Ernesto Che Guevara, Nikita Khrushchev, Marilyn Monroe and Jacqueline Kennedy, among others ...

I can't believe Elliot took one of the most historic photos of Marilyn Monroe's career

  1. Artist research should be more about your thoughts on the artwork, in this case photos, created by the artist - not a copy of biography information from the internet. You have one image included here, but you haven't discussed Erwitt's work here, and it would be better to see more than one of his works included. You must add referencing for the research.
