Graffiti Styles

Here I will show the different types of graffiti that exist.

Tag

It is the beginning of the graffiti, the signature or name. As originally the goal was to write the name as many times as possible, the letters were very simple, easy and fast. In addition, at that time there were still no different styles and the technique was very basic.

Tag with Outline

It consists of painting a fine line surrounding the thick letters to create a border

Bubble Letters

They are fatter and thicker, rounded and simple letters with fill colour and border.

Throw Ups

It is a poor version of bubble letters. It is sparsely patterned and only one colour is used as a fill, so the spray strokes are noticeable.

Block Letters

They are very simple, legible and large letters and usually using only one colour

Wild Style

It is more popular and widespread style. It is very difficult to read and very complicated to compose. It wears ornaments that are not part of the letter: circles, spirals, spikes, arrows, which add dynamism.

Model Pastel

The intention is to create a 3D effect on the letters. Make the graffiti come off the wall, the letter is not so important if not the three-dimensional effect. The 3D effect is achieved by the use of colour, the shape of the letters in perspective and the change in viewing angle.

Organic Graffiti

It is a relatively novel style. This style is based on mixing different styles of graffiti. The letters take on their own character by adopting the shapes of objects, characters or shapes, in this way each letter has its own personality.

Characters

This style is based on letters together with figures, comic characters, cartoons, sometimes the author uses these images to express what he feels.

 Icons

The idea is to change the letters for an image or figure, that is, to create a brand or icon so that the artist is recognized just by seeing his logo since it is easier to remember an icon than a name.

Abstract Graffiti

It is the extreme degree, where the graffiti can no longer be considered a graffiti, since the letters are no longer visible, and the colour fill occupies the entire surface.

Comments

  1. These could be separate posts for each style of graffiti - it would be good to see you really engaging with these different forms and explaining what you are going to do with this research in terms of how you are visualising your outcomes.

You haven't posted your Project Sign off or your Major Project Plan from Week 3. These must be posted to this blog with your comments on what you are doing and how you are going to develop and complete this project.
