Artist Research - Lysippos

 Lysippos

He was born in Sition in Greece in 395 B.C. he was one of the best sculptors of the Classical Period, along with Praxiteles and Escopas. Lysippos was a bronzist that means that his sculptures were made of bronze, his sculptures were so good that they were replicated by the Romans using marble. The best sculptures that Lysippos made were of the male body, Lysippos was very creative and innovative in each sculpture he made, for example, he reduced the size of the head and lengthened the limbs, and in that way the sculpture would appear taller and stronger giving a more manly essence.

Lysippos produced more than 1,500 works. Because of his great work and effort, Lysippos was the favorite of Alexander the Great and that gave him a good reputation for his work. Lysippos makes some sculptures of Alexander the Great. Nowadays, it is very difficult to determine which sculpture he made, since there are a good amount of sculptures of Alexander the Great.

  1. Is this research directed at your 3D piece or for your 2D work? I'm not sure beyond researching this era, what this is for. Remember, your research needs to be directed, not just for the sake of doing it!
